Photo: Iberian Peninsula As Seen From Space

One of the Expedition 35 crew members aboard the International Space Station photographed this high oblique image of the Iberian Peninsula on April 23, 2013. This is one of the very few pictures in the history of the decades old NASA-managed human-tended space program that shows the entire peninsula, with Portugal, Spain and Gibraltar.

Photo: Tata Sabaya Volcano in Bolivia As Seen From Orbit

One of the Expedition 35 crew members aboard the Earth-orbiting International Space Station photographed this image of Tata Sabaya Volcano, located in the Altiplano region of Bolivia. The volcano rises to a summit elevation of 5430 meters above sea level. While its current form is that of a "youthful" stratovolcano, the regional geological evidence indicates an older, eventful history, according to scientists.

Detailed Image of the Distant Universe

Staring at a small patch of sky for more than 50 hours with the ultra-sensitive Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA), astronomers have for the first time identified discrete sources that account for nearly all the radio waves coming from distant galaxies. They found that about 63 percent of the background radio emission comes from galaxies with gorging black holes at their cores and the remaining 37 percent comes from galaxies that are rapidly forming stars.

South Georgia Island As Seen From Space

This photograph from the International Space Station (ISS) shows the eastern half of South Georgia Island. At 54 degrees South latitude, snow and ice are permanent everywhere on the island except at altitudes near sea level, where temperatures are higher.

NASA's Cassini spacecraft has provided scientists the first close-up, visible-light views of a behemoth hurricane swirling around Saturn's north pole.
